''PAVERS THAT CLEAN THE AIR''
Quantumstone has developed the ''Cleancrete'' range of pavers to contribute in creating a healthier environment. The Pavers made with ''Cleancrete" will reduce the amounts of pollutants in the air above it. By constructing paved areas the naturally occurring process of pollution degradation by photolysis is accelerated by up to 30 times with the use of pavers made from ''Cleancrete".
"HOW IT WORKS''
We use a specially modified titanium dioxide as a photo catalyst. The photocalactic reaction is triggered by ultraviolet radiation generated by sunlight. The chemical reaction will convert pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless and beneficial nitrates. The chemical reaction between the "Cleancrete" and ultraviolet radiation is not depleted and remains intact. Therefore the photo catalytic reaction of "Cleancrete" will continue to clean the air indefinitely. This technology is being used on projects throughout Europe and Asia, with outstanding results with projects tested showing results of 60% reductions of nitrogen oxide pollutants in the air.
The ''Cleancrete" technology is available in our entire range with an option for custom designs in order to meet any style, colour or size required.

A long-lasting effect.
By the binders used, the photo catalyst is bound to the concrete paver structure while its chemical composition remains unchanged.
Added benefits: better colour retention and easier cleaning.

Real-life testing: NOx reduction by up to 60%
Comprehensive, long-term real-life tests were carried out in Italy and France. For example, a road section of about 230 metres in length in Segrate/Milan was covered with a photo catalytically active binder.
Over a period of eight months, field measurements were carried out that also included an untreated road surface for reference purposes. Depending on sunlight intensity, different degrees of NOx reductions were measured and a mean NOx reduction percentage derived.
The concentration of pollutants on the section covered with the photo catalytic binder was up to 60 % lower than the concentration on the untreated road section. Further series of tests such as the so-called
Canyon Street
, an artificial pilot set-up in Guerville, France, or a 4,000 sq m interlocking pavement laid in Calusco/Bergamo confirmed the positive outcomes.

Areas of application: heading towards the future.

Especially in the urban environment where most pollutants are generated, the use of ''Cleancrete'' products is a big step towards assuming responsibility for the preservation of a vibrant and healthy living environment.
In addition, this product is also well-suited when it comes to enhancing quality of life in inner city areas, providing strong arguments against the exodus from the cities or boosting the image of a health resort – the photo catalytically active ''Cleancrete'' paver gets to the very heart of environmental protection and preservation.
As a matter of course, major projects such as airports, railway stations, heavy-traffic areas and parking facilities are prime examples of where this pollution-reducing option can be applied.
